drugged out dreamscape music

I'm cushin' hard on Washed Out right now. This is basically the soundtrack to my day dreams. Ernest Green you are brillz! I just wish there were actual videos to accompany these...sigh. As of late, this chill bro core has def been my sound of choice.

nail polish has hit the matte

I am Loving the new matte nail polishes that have launched for F/W. I've always been partial to either bright pops or inky nots. So I've sworn off shimmer... now shine? At least for the moment. I finally received my first bottle of OPI Lincoln Park After Dark matte last week. It is so thoroughly modern yet nostalgic of 90's grunge. The look is feminine with a rock and roll edge as Karen O has so fiercely displayed above. Very few lines have yet to launch their matte polishes but there will def be more to come once Fall is in full swing. For now check out OPI and Knock Out for the best selection of colors.

VEGA tonight at Club Deville

VEGA is a fantastic local outfit that is sure to put some pep in yo step. Alan Palomo's voice really is a perfect complement to this brand of dream wave. Take a listen to their latest track No Reasons here. I've been a firm believer since the distortion laced dance pop of Ghosthustler. This guy has an insane amount of talent and drive. There is no doubt VEGA is about to blow up. I read this little news snippet a week or so ago that proves the wheels are definitely in motion. So check them out tonight and rsvp here for $5 entry.

I walk the way the wind blows

Here are a few shots of me taken last week by a fantastic artist and lovely friend. I'm not at liberty to post any details yet but will def provide more once the piece is complete.

FADER party at Speakeasy

Hold the Line Austin! This Friday, July 10, Speakeasy is celebrating it's 12 year anniversary with a mayjah lineup. This is going to be one hell of a dance party! Plus their rooftop is one of the best places to be in the summertime. Most excited to see Major Lazer! Rsvp here asap!

Goodguide: your new best friend

Ever tried to decipher the ingredient list on your daily moisturizer, sunscreen, or even shampoo? It's definitely a foreign language I for one am not privy to. But... I'm a total beauty junkie! I'm a strict disciple of the French philosophy of skincare first makeup second. With recent developments of carcinogens in sunscreens that are activated by sunlight (wtf) now is undoubtedly the time to buck up and get serious about the products in our daily rotation. Well life just got much easier and consequently much healthier thanks to goodguide. This brilliant website has compiled data on over 75,000 products, providing each with a score of 1 to 10 based on its health, environmental, and social impacts. There is even an iPhone application!!!! If all this wasn't magic enough, rumor has it the next version of the iPhone will allow you to simply scan the bar code to get the product's score. Thank you Dr.O’Rourke

Telepathe Tonight at Emo's (inside)

Yes my pop music fix is here in ATX! This is a must as I missed out on them at sxsw. I wasn't about to let that happen again! They have an interesting take on pop that really speaks to the crossover of genres we are encountering in music right now.
Below is an intimate look at their musical vision as well as their wicked selection of gear. Definitely drool worthy drum pads and synths.

Art Party at Spartan/bows+arrows

One of my absolute favorite stores in ATX is having a party tonight. I can always use an excuse to visit these two lovely shops. They have highlighted some great local talent in the past and I trust that will be the case again this evening. Plus an added bonus is b+a recently marked down many of their spring goods 30% off. I can't get this sheer linen racer back loosely woven tank off my mind. Yeah you can probably tell huh? I definitely maxed out the number of descriptors in that sentence... Oh I forgot to mention it's shark skin grey! I think it's about time I have that piece :)

Hester Trunk Show at By George

The designers of Hester will be at By George on North Lamar from 11-5 tomorrow. The design duo, Tasha Green and Mauricio Quezada, are in the midst of a road trip across the country personally introducing their new line. I admire the intimacy this approach provides. The line had been described very appropriately as "future vintage." So take advantage Austinites! Swing by and shop the Spring collection and get a head start on Fall with a pre order.

Alexander Wang Pre Fall

It only just reached 100 degrees here last week and Fall is already on my mind. Dressing for one season and dreaming of the next. These looks from Alexander Wang's Fall collection* are spot on transitional looks. I'm really feeling this collection! It retains the playful edginess he is adored for but adds a new sense of refinement to the mix. Glad to see the sweat shorts are carrying over into Fall! Now I just need to get my hands on those sheer biker shorts...

nostalgia

I remember my first piece of x-girl clothing... a sweet yet punky yellow mini dress with orange sleeves. One of my most coveted junior high purchases. The dress was a-line which made me look kind of like a lego person. Ha! It went perfectly with my boyfriend's oxford doc martens. Thanks Cory!
So Mrs. Gordon is back with a line called Mirror/Dash that came out a few months ago. I have yet to see it in person but am definitely intrigued. Awesome vintage footage in the vid below from the Royal Trux tee to Chloe's shaved head...

Grizzly Bear at The Parish

Soo bummed I don't have tickets to this tonight! If this youtube vid is any indication of their capabilities live then I'm missing one hell of a show. These boys have the voices of angels I tell you. The breakdown on this track kills me! I've not been much of a Grizzly Bear fan prior to this album, Veckatimest, with the exception of their cover of He Hit Me. I'm a sucker for so many elements of this album from the lush harmonies to the sweeping melodies. It's a formula that gets me every time. The hype preceding this album was pretty ridic but probably just a product of timing, similar to the success of The Hangover*. It's simply the type of escapism many people are looking for right now.

* jsyk, i have not actually seen the hangover yet so i'm just comparing levels of hype at this point
